MISS. SHORTCAKE GOES STREET
I participated in a CAD pattern making course at the University of Rhode Island where I used Lectra Modaris to create digital patterns for my favorite pair of jeans. For the final project, we were tasked to create an unconventional pair of jeans. Below is the process for creating my final garment inspired by a childhood love- Strawberry Shortcake.

The Patterns
We first created patterns for our favorite pair of jeans by using a "rub off" method by placing a pair of jeans under a sheet muslin and using tailors chalk to trace the lines and key features of the jeans. We then refined the pattern and cleaned up edges and angles and eventually digitalized this pattern.
Now having a foundation pattern, I was able to adapt it into my final project.
In The Works
I decided to create pleats down the entire pant leg to create volume, mimicking the dress Strawberry Shortcake traditionally wore in her original animation. I first draped a mock up and decided how many pleats I wanted and with that information, I was able to adapt my pattern. With the ease of matching and walking patterns in Modaris, I was able to add notches on the side seams and inseams that perfectly align.
With the patterns cut out, I was able to check the accuracy of my pattern work and make sure each notch aligned and all the pleats matched.

The Final Garment
A pair of pants fit for Miss. Strawberry Shortcake herself. Complete with pleated pant legs and 3D pockets on the surface with elastic tape that reads "STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE". An added pouch pocket on the back for a quirky touch trimmed with an eyelet ruffle, matching the waistband.
Details
In keeping with the project assignment of "unconventional", I created 3D pockets that sit on top of the pant legs using an elastic tape that reads "STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE" on repeat. The tape is used as the walls of the pocket and the pink gingham material is double lined as the pocket bag.
I also added a large single semi-circle pouch pocket on the back, complete with an eyelet ruffle trim which matches the waistband.

Cherry Rendition
I adapted these patterns again for a friend who wanted a version of these quirky pants. We kept the original concept but decided to give the strawberry pants a cherry sister.
